History of Al Ain Golf Club
Al Ain golf club was formed in 1991, by a small group of expat golf enthusiasts. These keen golfers were mainly contractors for the various construction projects, and were responsible for putting Al Ain’s base infrastructure in place. These skills were used to construct the clubhouse, design the course, and lay out the grounds. The club house was the first structure at the airport, and was the office for the airport contractors before being moved to the present location.
Initially, a 9-hole golf course was built in the North West side of Al Ain, and then in 1996 the golf club was relocated to the present 18-hole site. Our present location is gifted with an impressive backdrop of Jebal Hafeet, and the Oman mountain ranges.
It was always difficult to acquire land in Al Ain that was big enough to entertain an 18-hole golf course. However, due to the kindness of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nayan who generously loaned the land to the club, we now have a course which is both unique and beautifully located.
Al Ain golf club was the first golf club in the Eastern Region of the UAE, and at one stage had a membership of 70 members. With the opening of the Palm Golf Club many of our members were tempted by the grass course and our membership dropped to 3. Presently, with a membership of 22, we are actively working towards expanding membership and hope that Al Ain Golf Club serves the community in Al Ain for another 20 years.
